An Iroko hardwood Worktop starts off with golden brown tones but darkens down to beautiful rich dark brown. Iroko hardwood timber is also known as African Teak because of its grain and colour that is very similar to teak.
Attributes of Iroko hardwood worktops: Iroko timber is very hard, resists water well, has dense graining and a high oil content. It also has great antibacterial properties, similar to teak but much more cost effective.
With all Iroko worktops attributes, coupled with an attractive dark grain, you will have a worktop that is not just attractive and durable but hygienic as well.
Iroko timber is the hardwood of choice within the boat building industry. It is also used extensively in docks and harbours as a semi-submerged buffer to keep ships off the dock wall. Iroko is also popular for wooden floors and hardwood doors, again, because of its durability and water resisting capacity.
Origins of Iroko Timber: Iroko Timber is found in the Tropical jungles of Central Africa.
Interesting fact: Iroko is nick-named the "King Tree". Iroko (Chlorophora excelsa) roughly translates Chlorophora "royal in appearance," and excelsa means "tall" or "high".
