60, 80 & 100MM THICK TOPS SECTION 2: 2.1 Construction The thick tops are formed by building up the edges of 40mm tops with friezes and end rails to the required 60, 80 or 100mm thickness. The hollow sections so produced are supported with cross rails, held with slotted fixings which hold the tops flat and allow them to be installed directly onto base units. 2.2 Modular & non-modular work-surface sizes The thicker work-surface are available in lengths up to 3990mm & 2990mm; cut from 4 & 3 metre blanks respectively. Modular work-surface depth is up to 635mm. The recommended work-surface depth is calculated using the base carcase depth:- recommended depth = carcase depth + 35mm – 5mm expansion gap, i.e. 600mm work-surface on 570mm deep base units.

2.3 Edge Mouldings There is a choice of moulding to specify on the edges of work surface – in addition to the standard chamfered edge. The different mouldings require different types of corner joint treatment. Each edge moulding, includes the capillary groove. The groove prevents moisture running back under the work surface. Capillary grooves are applied only in line with the wood grain and stop short of the work surface ends. |

2.4 Breakfronts A breakfront is factory-made, by joining the front extension piece into the main body of the work surface. With 60, 80 & 100mm thick tops the breakfront can project only at right angles to the main work surface edge. Edge mouldings A, D & E are stopped by the internal corners. Edge mouldings B is run into the internal corners. External corner treatments are the same as Part 1, Section 1.6. |
