4.2 Clearance holes Clearance holes for the counterback knife rack and container accessories are required in the worksurface below. Worksurfaces will come with these holes already made. On tops made from worksurface blanks, melamine laminates and other materials, these clearance holes will need to be cut and their edges sealed with edge seal before the counterback can be installed. 4.3 Upstands The 75mm high upstand 3 is designed to install alongside timber counterback units. The back edge of the worksurface must be notched adjacent to the counterback position for them to align properly. Bespoke worksurfaces may come with these notches already cut, otherwise the notching will need to be done on site with a router, skilsaw or jig saw. The rebated part of the upstand conceals the edge of the notch. For upstand fixing (See Part 2, Section 5. ) |

4 . 5 Fixing timber counterbacks Fix timber counterbacks from below with roundhead screws and washers through crossgrain slotted holes. Slotted steel washers are supplied with the timber counterback. Leave a 4 – 5mm expansion gap between the wall and counterback. Seat them down on a bead of clear low modulus silicone sealer before the screws are inserted.
