Timber worksurface Installation Guide
Section 7 : installation checklist
Timber worksurface installation is quite different to that for melamine laminate, stone, stainless steel and solid surfaced worksurfaces.
The checklist here summarises the key points for a successful installation.
- Store tops in a weathertight room. Temperature and humidity there must be the same as the room in which the tops will eventually be fitted.
- Store tops flat, never on edge or on end.
- Intall base units with appropriate gaps around appliances.
- Set out tops so they have a 4 – 5mm expansion gaps between their edges and adjacent walls.
- Test fit the tops and upstands to check that the tops and all their features fit the base units.
- Fix tops down slotted steel brackets and roundhead screws. Fix only through the slots that lay across the woodgrain, to accomodate timber movement.
- Protect timber worksurface from humidity or prolonged contact moisture during installation and service. Follow the installation Guide strictly. Use the correct materials, edge seal, worksurface oil, moisture barrier and low modulus Silicone sealer.
